VISION & FOUNDATION

Shaffer Building Company was founded in 1996 with the vision to be a small construction company capable of supporting the Shaffer family. And it did just that. After Pat founded the company, he worked for himself and the company as well as some of the largest GC firms in Socal, some years for the company alone and many years for the company and the larger GCs – whatever it took to take care of the family. The dream was always to have a family company that could be passed on and that time has come. In 2023, Kevin and Nolan, along with their father left their respective employment and began the company’s next era with a new vision for the next generation.

The vision for Shaffer Building Company is to be a small family-owned & operated premier technical builder, providing our clients with a personal relationship. Understanding, caring about and aligning our services with their goals. Then using our foundational principles & experience to execute your goals. It’s that simple.

Our foundation: principles & experience, are derived from our personally held values and decades of experience in the construction industry since the early 1980s. We have seen the changes in industry over the years. We have worked with the best and the worst and learned from them all. What we have found is that timeless principles: integrity, diligence, respect & humility, paired with technical aptitude will set you apart in a world saturated by managerial assets with softly spoken principles.

We are different because of our vision: it’s personal. We are different because of our foundation: principles and experience. We are here to build for you.

PAT SHAFFER

PAT started in construction as a carpenter, joining the union in 1981. With a diligent work ethic he quickly worked his way up the ladder and began running work in 1983 – 41 years ago. Although he has worked in other market sectors, his passion and desire has always been healthcare. He loves the purpose behind the work and the challenges that healthcare construction presents. Throughout his extensive project experience, Pat has known that a project’s success is dependent on the people and their ability to form a team centered around the client’s goals. If a team doesn’t form, then the project will not be a success for anyone. Therefore, alongside his passion for healthcare construction and its challenges, is his passion for understanding the client’s goals and forming a team that will achieve those goals. Pat brings that passion for team and challenges to any project. With his extensive experience, Pat is also laser focused on the actual details needed to build a project. From the foundations to the final paint, projects are about the details. With Pat involved, the projects have an experienced team leader and an experienced builder.

NOLAN SHAFFER

NOLAN began construction at a young age, working alongside his father and brothers. Before coming back to the family company in 2023 he spent time working around the construction company for nearly 10 years. He started working in residential framing, quickly making his way back to healthcare working in facilities maintenance at a local hospital. Desiring to experience the larger GC world, he spent time working as a PE for two large general contractors in Socal. Always being the one to want to get his hands on the work, Nolan joined the Elevator Constructors Union for 3 years, before deciding it was time to get his hands dirty again with family company. His work ethic, hands on technical ability and patience enable him to route the toughest projects and problems.
